York, PA (October 2021) – The Country Club of York announced the results of their fund-raising efforts from the 7th Annual Mixed Doubles Charity Classic tennis tournament presented by UPMC Health Plan, held July 17-18, 2021. The tournament raised $69,000 in support of the York Opioid Collaborative. The funds raised will assist us to continue our efforts to reduce overdose deaths and the impact of substance use in our community.
The tournament featured 14 mixed doubles teams, including collegiate and nationally known players, and was livestreamed to allow fans to attend remotely. Back to back defending champions Holden Koons of York, who plays for James Madison University, and the University of North Carolina’s Elizabeth Scotty of Annapolis, Maryland retained their title, defeating Eva Frissora and Sanam Singh.
UPMC Health Plan continues its commitment to members and communities struggling with opioid use disorder by employing holistic care strategies, providing access to behavioral health care and evidence-based treatment, and supporting community organizations.
Next year’s tournament will be held on July 16-17, 2022. The 8th Annual Mixed-Doubles Charity Classic will be renamed to the “Groft Charity Classic” in honor of long term tournament chair Mike Groft. Mike has been the chair for this tremendous event for all years of its existence.
