The scope of the SAFEGUARxD project encompasses the continuum of care for a patient. Beginning with initial evaluation and treatment of individuals with non-controlled substance approaches, followed by initial prescription with plan of care, ongoing monitoring using best practices in the care of the patient, early identification of concerning patterns of use of medication, and appropriate intervention and referral for individuals who may have developed a substance use disorder as a complication of therapy.
To support and reinforce the guidelines and best practices identified above, we have developed a package of tools available to partnering medical practices to be used at the practice level and pharmacy level. These materials include:
- SAFEGUARxD Kits- Medication lock bag with medication deactivation pouch, medication disposal education and accessing treatment and support patient card
- Medication Storage- Lock bag or lock box
- Medication Disposal- Medication deactivation pouches
- Print Materials
