The Collective Response Initiative York (CRIY) First Responder Education Work Group came together around a shared idea: first responders are often present on people’s hardest days and rarely get to see what comes after. The healing, growth and many second chances.
To help tell the story, more than 15 organizations across the county asked individuals in the recovery community to write thank-you cards to the first responders. Over 650 handwritten messages were collected. Each story is a reminder that those difficult moments mean something to someone.
Throughout the month of May, in recognition of EMS, police, firefighters and public safety dispatchers, volunteers from the First Responder Education Work Group, Life Changing Pathways and community members helped deliver these cards to all first responder organizations in York County. But this effort was never meant to be about just one day of recognition; it was about creating a lasting connection and offering a glimpse into what recovery can look like.

To everyone who helped make this possible – those who shared their stories, the organizations who gathered the cards, and the volunteers who helped deliver them – thank you!
