This one-night art gallery show,“Healthy Expressions” is designed to inspire conversation and create a culture of open communication. Local high school students had the opportunity to share their voice through the power of art. Students shared artwork covering topics from mental health awareness and challenges, to dangers of substance use.
Research shows that youth and young adults can be powerful agents of change for substance use prevention. Teens are more likely to trust messages delivered from their peers. Therefore, this campaign aims to:
- Give youth a voice and platform to inform and influence substance use prevention; and
- Engage youth in an activity to educate and empower them to make good choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and their future.
This art show was named “Healthy Expressions”, to encourage that conversation around the challenges facing youth around mental health and substance use is necessary, and art could be a healthy way for youth to express their concerns.
